| This book and its sequel, above, The Way West, are great background about the expansion of the white people of the eastern states into the west. The characters in this book are mountain men and indians. One of the characters, Dick Summers, is also a major character in the next book. The writing is appropriately plain, and the characters are somewhat flat, though well enough developed to like or dislike. |
